We had no ability to cancel until the club finally opened back up for business and we were required to go in in person which we had been trying to avoid. I again explained the situation that we had been trying to cancel since the Pandemic was declared in March 2020 and were not allowed to do so by phone or message. I’ve called the club a couple more times and spoke to another manager Ms. I again emailed the corporate address to resolve the billing error, but got no response. Two days later on 8/3/20, we saw that her claim was true - Planet Fitness did in fact bill Annual Membership Fees to both of our accounts two days after our cancellations were completed and confirmed. ![]() In these emails, I showed that both of our memberships had been cancelled and that we expect no further billing from Planet Fitness. When we arrived at home that same day, I sent electronic mails to Planet Fitness Quincy and a corporate email address. We disputed this with her but she repeatedly insisted they were going to bill us and there would be no refunds from Planet Fitness. ****** that we would still be billed Annual Membership Fees even though we had just cancelled. At that time, we were told by a manager Ms. We made it to Planet Fitness gym in Quincy on 8/1/20, cancelled both of our memberships and got confirmation of this from the club on that same day. So we finally were compelled to go there in person since we were being given no options. We were again told that membership cancellations had to be done in person at the Gym/club. Once we eventually realized that Planet Fitness had resumed billing of our accounts in July 2020, we made one more attempt to cancel by phone and one more by electronic message (on 7/23/20). This makes it even more reprehensible that they would not relax their policy and allow us to cancel by phone or electronic mail. So even if we were willing to cancel in person per their policy, we still could not do so for a large portion of that 4 and a half months. Apparently Planet Fitness felt that in person cancellations were still necessary.Īlso, for a portion of that time, the Gym/club was not even open. Planet Fitness would not accommodate these requests because their in person cancellation policy was still being applied and enforced during a Nationwide Pandemic - a time when we were all being encouraged to do as little as possible in person, and discouraged from unnecessary in person interaction. We don’t have recordings of the phone calls, but we do have some saved messages, at least from 3/25/20 and from 7/23/20. We made multiple attempts to cancel our memberships between March 2020 and Aug 2020 by phone and by electronic messages. I’m requiring reimbursement for some recent charges billed against mine and my fiance’s membership accounts.Ĭonsidering all the regulation and guidance changes that have been made Nationwide and in ************* due to the Nationwide and Global Pandemic, I believe Planet Fitness’ policy of requiring members to cancel their memberships in person is blatantly contradictory to those regulations and guidance. I’m submitting a complaint in regards to Planet Fitness gym on ***** ** in Quincy, MA. This after 6 years of collecting fees from us, they just had to unethically rob each of us one last monthly fee and one last Annual Fee. Since then Planet Fitness has repeatedly refused refunds. We did so and then were still charged Annual Membership Fees AFTER our cancellations were confirmed. After this we were finally were compelled to go in person to cancel. ![]() After months of being refused cancellation by phone and by electronic message, we got charged monthly fees in July 2020. They required in person cancellation even though that is the opposite of what regulations and guidance have encouraged during this time period. Planet Fitness gym made it as difficult as possible for my fiancé and I to cancel our memberships during this National Pandemic. ![]()
